Boy on bike proves humanity is doing GREAT, actually

was: “Arizona teen hailed for helping save woman with dementia wandering in 103F heat

Fourteen-year-old Royal Cothrun was just riding his bicycle in Gilbert, Arizona, when he became our favorite person of the year. He spotted 76-year-old Theresa Morgan struggling through 103F heat, and instead of riding past — he stopped. He STOPPED!

'She just looked like something was wrong,' he said. That's it. That's the whole secret to civilization, delivered by a teenager with a bike and smart glasses.

Royal walked her to the shade, helped her remember her son's phone number, called him, and stayed until the fire department arrived. Her son believes Royal may literally have saved her life. The fire department is honoring him at a town council meeting on 11 August, and we are formally requesting a national holiday.

Somewhere out there, right now, there are thousands of Royals on thousands of bikes, just waiting for their moment. The future is in extremely good hands, and those hands are wearing bicycle gloves. Another gift!
