Read the Weaver interview slowly, because he says the quiet part in full volume: race and migration discourse is being USED — his framing — to deflect from class inequality and ineffective leadership. Used by whom? He says politicians. We agree. We simply ask you to sit with the word 'deflect' a little longer than is comfortable.
Every time the country is furious about the cost of living, the discourse pivots. Every time a leadership failure surfaces, the discourse pivots. Pivots don't happen. Pivots are performed. Ask yourself who benefits when neighbours who share a landlord, a food bank and a delayed bus route are arguing with each other instead.
Weaver's organisation spent 30 years putting ordinary people into rooms where decisions happen. Notice how little coverage that got. Notice what gets coverage instead. Notice is all we're asking. For now.
He wants big conversations across divides. Correct. Have them in person. Compare notes. The notes will match, and when they match, ask why you were told they wouldn't. You do the math.
