Report recommends thing; residents in favour of thing
The Competition and Markets Authority has recommended that heating oil customers receive protections similar to those enjoyed by grid customers. Rural residents, asked whether they would like protections, confirmed that they would. This has been a news story.
Background for the recently arrived: 1.5 million households heat their homes with oil, prices went up 92% when a war started, and one man had to write several letters to receive fuel he had paid for. He now has the fuel. The letters worked, as letters occasionally do.
The recommendation now travels to 'governments', which is where recommendations go. There it will be welcomed, considered, consulted upon, and scheduled for inclusion in a future framework, arriving — per the standard timetable — one to four winters after the winter in question.
Households will meanwhile continue doing what they already do: filling tanks early, wearing jumpers, and managing fine-ish. Nothing happened today. Correct. It was, however, quite cold when it did.
